The current state of affairs is dire. We are witnessing the end of true democracy, facilitated by virtue of its processes.
The greatest failure by the people, is the sense of apathy in regards to politics. The NIMBY concept (Not In My BackYard)
illustrates it best, as many do not care, until it affects them directly. Also, many blindly vote along party lines, without re-evaluating their values with their chosen party's values, or researching the actual candidates and their prior actions. The 2-party system is too restrictive, and vastly limits available choices. The entire system warrants restructuring to expand our choices and remove the 2-party limitations.
There is no need for the electoral college. It is intended to skew the results, and block the majority, much as the DNC's Super Delegates were created to protect party elites. It is not important to provide artificially increased voting power to a state with fewer residents. Voting power is not a state right, but a right of the individual citizen. One person, one vote.
